Colonial Infrastructures. Notes on Politics, Building and Bureaucracy in the Former Belgian Congo
In the art-space La Loge in Brussels, the exhibition ‘Le Réduit’ is currently on show in which artist Sven Augustijnen presents an installation with original archival material on the remarkable 1950s project of the Belgian government to build a city and military base in Kamina, Congo. In the context of this exhibition, Johan Lagae will give a talk on the mundane, and at times even banal architecture, designed for the former Belgian colony by often forgotten architects employed by the Public Works Department of the colonial government. This conference is open to the public and forms the closing event of a one-day workshop in La Loge on ‘Colonial Infrastructures’.
