Luce Beeckmans graduated as a civil engineer-architect at Ghent University, Department of Architecture & Urban Planning (Belgium) in 2005 and then worked as an architect and urban planner at the office of Stéphane Beel Architects. From 2007 until 2011 she was a research assistant at the Department of History of Architecture & Urbanism at Groningen University (the Netherlands), where she obtained an award-winning PhD on the urban (planning) history of African cities. She has published articles in a broad range of journals (Planning Perspectives, Urban History,…) and presented her interdisciplinary research on several international conferences (SAH, EAUH, EAHN,…). Since 2012 she is a full-time post-doctoral assistant at the Department of Architecture & Urban Planning of Ghent University, where she coordinates the research unit Labo S (Labo Stedenbouw/Urban Planning).
