Pieter Pauwels holds a master degree in engineering – architecture (Ghent University, 2008). He graduated with a theoretical research on the ICT conception of an integrated architectural design environment. He started as a PhD student immediately after graduating at UGent SmartLab, which is supported both by the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Department of Electronics and Information Systems. As an FWO aspirant, he investigated how and to what extent information system support can be provided for architectural design thinking. After finishing his PhD thesis in 2012, Pieter started a 2-year postdoctoral research project at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) in the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He remains affiliated to the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning in Ghent University to ensure continuation of the started lines of investigation.
