Bart Verschaffel (1956°) is Professor of Theory of Architecture and Architectural criticism. He holds an MA in Medieval History and a PhD in Philosophy. He has published widely in the fields of Architectural Theory, Theory of History, Aesthetics, and Philosophy of Culture. Monographical publications include: Rome/Over theatraliteit (1990); Figuren/Essays (1995); Architecture is (as) a Gesture (2001), À propos de Balthus (2004); Van Hermes en Hestia. Bart Verschaffel is the author of a series of documentary films on artists, and curator of the exhibitions ‘Giambattista Piranesi’ (Gent, MSK, 2008) and ‘b0b Van Reeth. Architect’ (Brussels, BOZAR, 2013).
He is the director of StAK (Research Centre for Architecture & Art) and the director of GUST (Ghent Urban Studies Team).
