Jens van de Maele (1985) studied History at the University of Leuven and the University of British Columbia (Vancouver). Between 2009 and 2012, he worked as a TA at the History Department of the University of Leuven. In this period, he published articles and a monograph on urban history, environmental history, and the linkages between both.
Since October 2012, he is a PhD researcher at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning (University of Ghent). His current research deals with the architectural history of the Belgian ministerial offices between 1918 and 1970. It is his aim to retrace the motives and ambitions of the successive Belgian governments as architectural clients. Preliminary research results have been presented at the international conference “The office as an interior” (Bern, Switserland, October 2013). Other publications and congress contributions are in the pipeline.
