Maarten Van Den Driessche is dr. engineer architect. Currently he works as a postdoctoral research assistant and as a lecturer at the Department of Architecture & Urban Planning of the University of Ghent and as a lecturer in architectural theory at The University College for Sciences and Arts KUleuven Ghent and Brussels.
Maarten studied architecture at the University of Ghent (B) and at l’Ecole d’Architecture de Paris-la-Villette (F). In november 2009 he submitted his PhD on the ‘Architecture of the Educational Complex in the Belgian Context (1842-1972)’
As a student he was second laureate of the ‘RENOSCRIPTO 1998 student awards’ with his first year project. He received the ‘brick prize 2002′ with his graduation project . This project was selected for the ‘ARCHIPRIX INTERNATIONAL 2003’. In 2009 he obtained a fellowship at Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (D)
Maarten is collaborator of Labo A at the University of Ghent, and he is member of the research unit ‘Architectural History and Theory’, and of the unit ‘Design Theory and Architectural Practice’. His scientific research is situated in the field of Architectural Theory, Criticism and Design Methodology, with a special interest in the typology of semi-public buildings and design practice. He was editor of several books and journals. He published articles on architectural design and related issues in A+, Archis, OASE, Werk, Bauen + Wohnen, DWR, Paedagogica Historiae, etc.
